SO YOU THINK I'M HOT?
No machine is ever due for a win. Every play gives you the same chance of winning.
A Manitoba Gaming Control Commission study from 2007 found that 19% of Manitobans believe that the odds of winning on VLTs and slot machines change during play; even more (23%) think that if a machine hasn’t paid out in awhile, it’s more likely to be due for a win.
These beliefs are, in fact, false. VLTs and slots do not become 'due for a win' or 'go cold' after a win. Each play – each press of the button or pull of the handle – is random and independent, which means there are no patterns of wins and losses.
When playing VLTs and slot machines, the time span between each bet can be very short. This leads many players to see false patterns or to believe incorrectly that the results of a series of bets will predict the results of future bets. The truth is that each bet on a VLT or slot machine is like buying a lottery ticket for a different draw - the events are completely separate from one another.
