In fall 2005, the Manitoba Gaming Control Commission (MGCC) launched our award-winning public education campaign to debunk common myths about slot machines and VLTs. The campaign empowers Manitobans to make informed choices through messaging that presents the truths about gambling-related odds and randomness. The campaign ran again in 2006 and 2007.

The MGCC regularly measures Manitobans’ gambling attitudes, knowledge and behaviours in order to inform our public education initiatives. This campaign’s messaging was based on research findings from our first Manitobans and Gambling survey in 2004 that showed that gambling myths were widespread in the province, as in other Canadian jurisdictions.
We also use research to evaluate our initiatives: please click here for our complete report of the evaluation that was conducted after the campaign’s first run. Questions to evaluate the effectiveness of the second campaign run were incorporated into the second Manitobans and Gambling survey in 2007.
