Manitobans and Gambling Surveys

Every three years, the Manitoba Gaming Control Commission (MGCC) conducts a survey in the Manitobans and Gambling series to learn about adult Manitobans' gambling-related attitudes, awareness, knowledge and behaviours. This research series is a key source of information for our responsible gambling initiatives, and ensures that they are responsive to the changing needs of Manitobans. For example, the MGCC's myth-busting campaign was based on results from Manitobans and Gambling (2004), and Manitobans and Gambling II (2007) was used to inform the development of the MGCC's more recent limit-setting campaign.

Collecting similar data at different time points allows the MGCC to analyze the evolution of Manitoba's gaming environment. The results of Manitobans and Gambling III (2010) show that gambling participation has remained quite stable in Manitoba since the MGCC began tracking it, but that initiatives such as the MGCC's public education campaigns have positively impacted the number of Manitobans who use limit-setting strategies to gamble responsibly.
