Manitobans and Gambling Surveys

Every three years, the Manitoba Gaming Control Commission (MGCC) conducts a survey in the Manitobans and Gambling series to learn about adult Manitobans' attitudes, knowledge and behaviours related to gambling. This research series is a key source of information for our responsible gambling initiatives, and ensures that they are responsive to the changing needs of Manitobans. Data collection for Manitobans and Gambling III was completed in May 2010 and a final report is expected by the fall.

The last survey in this series was conducted in 2007, when the MGCC surveyed a representative sample of 1,200 adult Manitobans; Manitobans and Gambling II (2007) presents the survey findings. This research was based on the first Manitobans and Gambling (2004) survey, although some questions were reworked to update the study and address emerging research priorities. Collecting similar data at different time points allows the MGCC to analyze the evolution of Manitobans' gambling-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviours. For example, comparing the 2007 and 2004 studies shows that the number of Manitobans who believe harmful myths about gambling has decreased over time.
