Eligibility

Do we need a licence?

You will need a licence if there is:

  • a cost to enter or play, and
  • a chance to win, and
  • a prize.

Who can apply?

Only charitable or religious groups are eligible. Funds raised must broadly benefit the community and be used for education, religion, health, the relief of poverty, sport, recreation or culture.


How do we apply?

You will need to complete an application and provide us with information about your organization which may include copies of meeting minutes, bank statements, a membership list and details of prize guarantees, among other things.


How long does it take to get a licence?

The MGCC requires 4 to 6 weeks to process applications. Complete and accurate applications may be processed more quickly.


Do we have to pay licence fees?

For most types of licences:

  • There are no fees if anticipated gross revenue is under $5,000

    •
  • If anticipated gross revenue is over $5,000, the fee is 1.5% of actual gross revenue

    •
  • For Monte Carlo licences, there is a fee of $5.00 per game per day.
